In many Sub-Saharan African communities it’s believed that herbs, mixtures, and rituals can be used to bring good luck, health, success, ect. These beliefs can sometimes result in the persecution of people with Albinism. Many men, women, and children with the skin condition have been kidnapped, dismembered, and killed for the “healing properties/ powers'' they are believed to obtain. The sack-like fruit, sausage tree flower, native to areas where maltreatment is most common, are simultaneously used for healing properties. This painting is an ode to the lives lost.
